Landmark Estates has secured another planning permission for the redevelopment of Hanson’s Garage, Combe Martin to provide a convenience store on behalf of the Co-op.
Approved under Council delegated powers, the Officer’s report states “It is considered that in the context of its setting in the street scene, set back from the road frontage, the scale of the building is acceptable and whilst taking a different form to the existing garage building, will have little more impact on the street scene. The general appearance of the site will be enhanced in terms of surface treatment. The application is considered to accord with the adopted development plan”.
Phil Holdcroft, Landmark Estates, Planning Manager, was delighted with the decision and acknowledged the crucial role his wider team in preparing detailed technical reports to address key issues. In particular, demonstrating that the scheme would: have a safe and an appropriate means of access; mitigate any historic land contamination and; provide an improved surface water design.
Gareth Dexter, Co-op acquisition manager said, “We are excited about the opportunity of the Co-op operating within the heart of local life in Combe Martin, conveniently providing an improved range of food and goods to meet the community needs”.
Subject to licence and the discharge of planning conditions, it is anticipated the site will open Summer 2021.
